- Cloth-backed green glazed pictorial boards.
- 64pp. "End of Contents" on p. 14 (this is one way of verifying first edition)

- No Editor, but the first Edition was designed and printed by Edmund Evans who did all of the work of transferring Kate's artwork onto paper.
Illustrations also by Kate Greenaway
Illustration from pg 21, which was eliminated in future editions.
- These were "wash color drawings". First edition includes complex illustrations present on pp. 21,35, and 63 which were omitted in later editions. (“FirstSearch: WorldCat Detailed Record,” n.d.)
- Kate's drawings were widely imitated after this publication and were also responsible for inspiring fashions for young girls.
- Each page is illustrated.
- Addtionally, “each page is framed with a border, which creates a detached more static effect, as if the reader were observing the scene” (Lundin, n.d., p. 50)
Interior and Exterior of the Book
- The book is beautiful, the font however is very tiny and the pictures are of course the main focus.
- The paper is machine made, woven, pages are pale yellow
- Quarter-bound in dark green cloth; dark green board covers are printed in white, orange, and black; clay end papers are black; all edges yellow (“FirstSearch: WorldCat Detailed Record,” n.d.)
